There's a Lot Going On Under the Sea at the Marriott Theatre
Disney’s beloved animated film "Finding Nemo" is now being performed live at the Marriott Theatre as part of their Theatre for Young Audiences, now through January 4, 2026.
I saw the show with my two grandsons and they sat there mesmerized by the amazing puppets and colorful costumes. It’s an experience that blends vibrant, catchy music, and emotional storytelling to create the perfect introduction to musical theatre for children.
At its core, Finding Nemo is a tale of love, resilience, and bravery. The plot follows young Nemo, a curious clownfish who gets separated from his overprotective father, Marlin. As Marlin embarks on a perilous journey across the ocean to find his son, he encounters a cast of colorful characters—including the forgetful but lovable Dory—and learns to trust, let go, and embrace the unknown.
Actors portray sea creatures using elaborate, oversized puppets and expressive movement. The set design features undulating waves of blue and green light, immersing audiences in the vast underwater world. Tailored for young audiences, the production runs about an hour with a question and answer section following.
Directed and choreographed by Amber Mak, with musical direction by Ellie Kahn, the performance features a stellar cast of actors who must not only sing and dance, but must also navigate the movements of the puppet. The puppetry, designed by Jesse Mooney-Bullock, adds a layer of magic that captivates both children and adults. Kudos to Costume Designer Theresa Ham for her colorful costumes that blend in with the deep blue sea and Scenic Design by Milo Bue.
This production of DISNEY’S FINDING NEMO stars Avelyn Lena Choi as “Nemo,” who has a beautiful, sweet voice. Devin DeSantis as “Marlin” plays the perfect parent and Leah Morrow as “Dory” is hysterical as the confused fish.
The talented ensemble includes Andres DeLeon, Genevieve Jane, Charlie Long, Adelina Marinello, Tommy Rivera-Vega, Maya Rowe, the always-excellent Lorenzo Rush Jr., and Meena Sood. The Marriott Theatre for Young Audiences team is led by Associate Artistic Director Katie Johannigman, with Associate Director & Choreographer Elizabeth Romero, Scenic Design by Milo Bue, Lighting Designer Brian Elston, Sound Designer John Johnson, Media Designer Alex Gendal, Props Designer Wynn Lee, Wig, Hair and Makeup Designer Miguel Armstrong, Stage Manager Katie Dreher and Assistant Stage Manager Adam Hyde.
Finding Nemo on stage is more than a retelling of the story —it’s a celebration of courage, connection, and the beauty of the deep blue sea. Whether you're a longtime fan of the film or discovering the story for the first time, this theatrical journey is sure to leave you smiling.
