Marriott Theatre seeks Sound Engineers for our Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) productions throughout the year. Typically these contracts run 5-7 weeks, and all performances are in the mornings/early afternoons. These are contract positions hired show-by-show. Each performance has a run time of one hour with an
approximately 10 minute post show talkback.






The TYA Sound Engineer is responsible for the implementation, maintenance and successful execution of sound equipment and elements related to the production (under the direction of the Sound Supervisor). The TYA Sound Engineer is responsible for effectively supporting sound designers and ensuring that the aural
experience of every show meets high artistic standards. The TYA Sound Engineer will perform live line-by-line mixing for every show in the run. Our shows often perform to tracks, but sometimes have a small live band that will need to be mixed, as well.

The TYA Sound Engineer will work with the Mainstage Sound Engineer to ensure successful daily changeover between shows. They may also provide emergency coverage for the Mainstage engineer.

Responsibilities

● Develop a complete and thorough understanding of all requirements for the production, including the creation of an annotated script and any relevant paperwork.
● Organize and execute all changeover and strike duties for the production.
● Perform as live audio mixer, operator and microphone dresser for the production.
● Maintain the integrity of the sound design throughout the production.
● Attend all technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals and previews, as required.
● Attend at least two rehearsals prior to tech, potentially operate sound for the Designer Run, as needed.
● Setup and troubleshoot wireless mics for the production.
● Ability and willingness to troubleshoot and conduct minor repairs on faulty/malfunctioned equipment.
○ These efforts would only be conducted under the guidance of the Sound Supervisor.
● Troubleshoot technical notes and issues as they arise, communicating with the Sound Supervisor often.
● Meet or exceed industry standards for safety in all aspects of the department and promote a culture of safety and well-being in all work areas. This includes routine safety inspections on tools and equipment.
● Other duties as assigned.

Preferred experience

● 2-3 years professional sound experience with a strong background in mixing for live theater.
● Strong musical theatre experience.
● Ability to mix line-by-line for live dialogue and singing.
● Functional knowledge and skills in a variety of audio related areas including, but not limited to: microphone reinforcement, recording techniques, sound editing, live audio mixing, equalization, time alignment and console programming.
● Strong working knowledge of Qlab and Mac OS.
● Experience in repair and maintenance of standard audio equipment.
● Experience with installation and strike logistics.
● Ability to work productively under time pressure to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities.
● Must have reliable transportation.
● Must be able to provide documentation of full vaccination of a US-government approved COVID19 vaccine regimen for COVID19, at the time of hire.

Expectations

● Arrive in a punctual manner and complete tasks and duties by each deadline.
● If a deadline cannot be met, communicate to the Sound Supervisor as early as possible.
● Proactively problem solve and keep Sound Supervisor informed in a timely manner of any issues, repairs or other needs as they arise.
● Display strong interpersonal skills and flexibility to problem solve effectively as changes are made throughout the production process.
● Maintain a positive working environment while communicating and working alongside other theatre professionals and hotel staff.
